Cheesy Eggs with Chili Butter

Cheesy Eggs with Chili Butter

1/5/2026

There is a site called Half-Baked Harvest where I used to get many of the recipes I make, but I did find that the more recipes I made from the site, the more would be "hit and miss". It is one of those lifestyle sites that has beautifully photographed recipe photos, but great lighting does not make a great dish. I have had to be more selective in what I choose to make from the site, but that might be a good approach to any recipe site.

Fortunately, this recipe for Cheesy Eggs with Chili Butter is a hit! It is basically upscaled avocado toast, so it is hard to go wrong with that base. On top of the avocado toast you put eggs scrambled with cheese (hence the Cheesy Eggs) and top the whole thing off with homemade chili butter. It is protein-packed and delicious, and most importantly, Keshav loves it.

Today I have scheduled myself to put away all remaining holiday decorations, which will take about three hours total by my estimate. I like to put things away neatly and properly labeled, because that makes it easier to put them back up the next year. This is my main task today besides the usual Monday spot-cleaning and laundry.

Keshav asked me recently if I am able to "do nothing" for a day, since this is his preferred activity (or lack thereof) on his days off. To be fair, he does work 12-hour days, and he does usually exercise on his days off, but he is content to sit on the sofa the rest of the day and watch TV and play his video game.

I don't call this "doing nothing", but it is certainly a lot less than I do on a day off. This is partly because I prefer to be the one doing the cleaning and cooking, so naturally that would give me more tasks than him. But it is also due to my history of keeping busy--all the time.

Can I do nothing?

I would answer "no", because I don't think of anything I do as nothing, even if it looks like nothing. I DO like when I have time to observe, notice, be present, and feel. This is why I can't stay in bed too long, because there is only so long that I can tolerate feeling the bed.

I think my favorite non-active activity is sitting on a bench in a park and watching people. I could spend hours doing this and never get bored. There is something about tracking the interactions people have with others, themselves, and their surroundings, that fascinates me. I suppose that is one of the traits that make me a writer. I see stories around me all the time.

Keshav and I are not that different. He likes to watch stories on his game player, and I like to watch them in the world. One is not a better way than another, just different.

So can I do nothing? No, and yes. Yes, and no.
